I've seen Pride in Spokane evolve from a small festival in the corner of riverfront park,
to the massive event it is today. I've seen the landscape of identities change radically
as our world becomes a more accepting place. Pride is an ever changing movement,
and while we forge ahead into the future, I believe it is incredibly important to
remember where it came from. We would not be where we are without the burdens of
our past generations, it is a burden we still share in stewarding this movement, and I
believe we cannot be good stewards of Pride without having a deep understanding of
where it came from. We are all in history, and in order to push our world in the
direction of peace, justice, and acceptance, we must be grateful for the shoulders we
stand upon.
